Job Description

What You Will Do Lead the Plans & Operations Section overseeing and directing overall program implementation to include review and analysis of requirements and needs. Develop and maintain program documentation. During Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, serve in a leadership role overseeing the EOC Operations Section and supporting the coordination of Citywide response activities. Act as principal advisor to the DEM Director and Deputy Director on emergency management issues relating to plans and operations. Perform other related duties as required. Special Work Requirements Subject to calls 24-hours per day for emergencies with contact via cellular phone. Actual salary will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval. Education Requirement Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree. Examples for Substitution Four years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree. Four years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in emergency management may substitute for a general bachelor's degree. Experience Requirement Work experience which included ALL of the following: Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in planning or program management, which involved: Developing, reviewing, or implementing emergency management plans, procedures, or related planning documents involving multiple agencies and departments; Coordinating emergency operations within an Emergency Operations Center or comparable incident management structure during activations, exercises or planned events. Specialized experience must demonstrate supervisory aptitude or potential through one or more of the following: Successful completion of regular or special assignments involving supervisory responsibilities; Serve as a group or team leader; Application of supervisory skills in work assignments; Favorable performance evaluations indicating supervisory potential. Non-qualifying experience: Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level, and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. License Requirement Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
