POSITION SUMMARY: The Health Unit Clerk (HUC) at El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the nursing unit while serving as a central communication hub for patients, families, and healthcare staff. The HUC ensures efficient unit operations by managing patient records, coordinating communications, processing physician orders, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. This role supports quality patient care by promoting organization, timeliness, and effective communication within the healthcare team.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: - Highschool Diploma
- Medical Terminology class or one (1) year experience in medical related field
- Able to read and write English.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Organizes and maintains unit files of unit forms, correspondences and directives.
- Organizes and maintains patient education materials.
- Maintains records of daily staffing variances. Assist with daily staffing.
- Acts as a receptionist. Exercises tact, diplomacy and judgment in screening phone calls communicating with vendors, physicians, nursing and ancillary employees.
- Prepares and collects data for studies.
- Requisitions supplies related to the management of the Department in a timely manner.
- Utilizes and participates in the Quality Improvement Process.
- Acts as an information conduit to members of the department, other departments, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Operates equipment related to communication and computer. Organizes a preventative maintenance and inventory file for department equipment related to administrative and patient care needs.
- Keeps work area neat and organized. Organizes work and completes assignments in a timely manner. Ensures that utility room, kitchen, pantries, supply rooms and nurses lounge are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion.
Position Pay Range: $18.63 - $27.45 per hour In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Act, El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) posts the pay range for all jobs. Please note that actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.
