Job Description

OhioHealth is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Surgical Tech to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will be an integral member of the surgical team, supporting surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers to deliver safe, high-quality care to patients across our not-for-profit healthcare network. As part of OhioHealth’s inclusive, compassionate culture, you will help ensure that every patient receives respectful, equitable, and expert care during their surgical experience. The Surgical Tech will prepare the operating room for procedures by gathering, opening, and arranging instruments, supplies, and equipment according to surgeon preference cards and established protocols. You will establish and maintain the sterile field, apply strict aseptic and infection-control techniques, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team throughout each procedure. During surgery, you will pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon and assistants, handle surgical specimens according to policy, assist with retraction and exposure as permitted, and help maintain accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps to support patient safety. You will collaborate closely with circulating nurses and other team members to ensure that equipment is functioning properly, that patients are positioned and prepped safely and correctly, and that all documentation and handoffs are completed accurately. Responsibilities include assisting with room turnover between cases, participating in quality and safety initiatives, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning. You will be expected to communicate clearly and respectfully in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate sound judgment, and respond calmly and efficiently to changes in patient condition or the surgical plan. Working at OhioHealth offers the opportunity to grow professionally within a large, mission-driven healthcare system that spans 29 hospitals and more than 200 ambulatory sites across Ohio. Surgical Techs benefit from ongoing education, in-service training, and exposure to a broad range of specialties and procedures, with opportunities to develop advanced skills and pursue professional certification. In alignment with our commitment to diversity, equity, and innovation in healthcare, you will be encouraged to contribute your ideas, support your colleagues, and help foster a welcoming environment for patients, families, and team members from all backgrounds. This position is based on-site in the operating room environment and involves standing for extended periods, working in close collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teams, and adhering to all safety, infection-prevention, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and compassionate, with a strong desire to support excellent surgical outcomes and make a positive impact on community health through their daily work at OhioHealth.
