Albany Medical Center is seeking a skilled and experienced Surgical Tech III for our Main Operating Room within the Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this advanced role, you will function as a key member of the surgical team, working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative nurses to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. You will prepare the operating room by selecting, assembling, and arranging appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for a wide range of complex procedures, ensuring all items are sterile, functioning, and in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. During surgery, you will anticipate the needs of the surgical team, pass instruments and supplies, maintain the sterile field, handle specimens, and support accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to promote patient safety and prevent retained items. You will assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, and the application of dressings, while closely following aseptic technique and infection‑prevention protocols. As a Surgical Tech III, you will serve as a clinical resource and preceptor to junior surgical technologists and students, providing guidance, mentoring, and training on complex procedures, specialty equipment, and best practices in the Main OR. You will collaborate with leadership to help optimize workflows, support quality‑improvement initiatives, and participate in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies and surgical techniques. Documentation of intraoperative activities, equipment usage, and implant tracking will be part of your routine responsibilities, along with assisting in room turnover and readiness for subsequent cases. You will be expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment with rotating shifts, on‑call, weekends, and holiday coverage as needed.
